Period Games

Welcome to the Period Games Homepage!

This Querki Space is intended as a more-collaborative replacement for the old, static version. It is mainly a collection of links to every significant page I find on the subject of Period Games -- reconstructions, facsimiles, vendors, and so on. Unlike most sites, which collects somebody's own articles and reconstructions, this is mainly an index to the information out there on the Web, sliced and diced to make it useful.
Please note that it is only for games actually played in those time periods, loosely defined. Games found only after 1700 are not relevant here, and modern games about the Middle Ages should please go elsewhere. The main focus of this page is games that are at least somewhat appropriate for SCA use, using the generous definition of SCA period that is increasingly standard. (Note: non-European games are explicitly welcome, but I don't know them as well personally, so I have less basis for knowing what does and doesn't belong -- please try to keep suggestions focused on games believed to go back at least to SCA period.)
Please be realistic about how documentable a game is, and how reliable your sources are. While speculative sources are okay, they should be marked as such. The goal of this page is to provide a helpful guide to the wealth of information available online, and some sense of how reliable the various pages are. Members of this Space are allowed and encouraged to provide their own reviews of the linked pages; if you would like to join, please write to me at "game-hist" at waks dot org.
Note: many of the pages linked from here have gone poof at some point in the past, as Web pages are wont to do. Links to those pages are provided via The Wayback Machine, possibly the most important site on the Web. If you find these links useful, please donate to the Internet Archive, which provides this invaluable service.
