Tablero de Jesus -- New York Magazine, 20 Dec 71

Sources:
In "Best Bits" on page 89, has a small segment specifically calling out Tablero as a modern invention.
Text:
El Tablero de Jesus (The Jesus Board), it says on the box, is a dice game that was played by monks from, "its first appearance in Andalusian monasteries early in the fifteenth century to its suppression by Pope Sylvester V in 1458". Not according to our history book. It turns out that El Tablero is the product of Peter Swift, who is not a monk, never heard of any Pope Sylvester V, and works at Family Circle magazine. The game involves making big decisions and moving ducats around on an ornate wooden board; $14 at Brentano's and Bendel's.
